Loran I Bumpus

Loran I. Bumpus, 93, of Mt. Vernon passed away Saturday evening September 19, 2020 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
Loran was born in Bonnie, IL on June 15, 1927 the son of Franklin Ivan & Victoria Elizabeth (Hopper) Bumpus. 
He first married Geraldine (Jerrye) Presley and she preceded him in death in 1955. He then married Betty Louise (Welch) Bumpus and she preceded him in death on April 30, 2001. Loran is survived by a special friend Wanda Williamson.
Mr. Bumpus was a World War II Veteran. He was an advocate for DAV. He was a member of the Logan Street Baptist Church. Mr. Bumpus was the Pastor of Campground and Bonnie Baptist Churches. He was a Farmer and a Welder. Mr. Bumpus was highly regarded in the community.

Mr. Bumpus was preceded in death by his Parents, 2 Sisters-Dollie Edith & Maxine Ambrey and 1 Brother-Samuel Eugene Bumpus who passed away in World War II.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 24th at the Johnston Funeral Home in Ina with Rev. Seth Bumpus officiating. Burial with Military Rites conducted by the Mt. Vernon American Legion Post #280 will be in the Smith Cemetery in Belle Rive. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday September 23rd at the Johnston Funeral Home in Ina. 
We ask everyone attending the services to practice social distancing. We are limited to 50 people in our building at a time, and everyone attending is encouraged to wear a mask.
