Stanton Fowler, Jr. Obituary

Stanton Monroe Fowler, Jr., 78, of Mt. Vernon, IL, passed away March 17, 2025 at his home.  Stan was born on September 2, 1946, to Stanton M. and Mary Rosella (Carroll) Fowler, in Mt. Vernon, IL.  Stan was a well known CPA and owned his own firm in Mt. Vernon since September 1978.  He had spent many hours researching his ancestral linage and knew specific details about all his relatives, where they lived, what they did for a living, and where they are buried.  In fact two distant relatives did not have headstones, so he made arrangements to have one made.  All of his extended family members depended on him for family history and detailed stories from the past.  Stan was an excellent trap and skeet shooter, going to Nationals in Ohio and other events.  As an avid St Louis Cardinal fan, he never missed a game on TV and knew all the players and their stats.  Another one of his passions was playing Bridge. He had a Bridge group he belonged to for many years.  Stan attended church at Wesley United Methodist in Mt Vernon.
Stan attended Mt. Vernon Township High School in 1960 -1964, where he played basketball, football & baseball receiving multiple varsity letters.  He graduated and played basketball from Mt. Vernon Community College in 1967.  He then went on to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL and received a BS in Accounting in 1969 with honors. He was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi a professional business fraternity. After working in St Louis for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co, he returned home to Mt Vernon in 1970 to work for Wayne L Krehbiel & Co and later became partner of the firm.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents Stanton M. and Rosella C. Fowler, his grandparents, many aunts, uncles and one cousin.  He is survived by his sister Elaine Kay Pigg and husband Alan of Marietta, Georgia; Two nieces, Alison Kay Wheeler (Matthew) from Inverness, Florida; and Ashley Carroll Crutchfield (Roswell) of Woodstock, Georgia; Two great nephews Luke and Nicholas Wheeler and one great niece Audrey Crutchfield.  Stan had a large family on both sides with 17 cousins who all remained very close over the years.  Family meant everything to Stan.
